This was recorded on the 16th August 2018, the day we found out she had died. I wasn't enjoying my latest job at the time, and I was going through some serious personal issues with relapse this summer. I was kinda out of control.
I came home from work, and searched for this song. I knew Clapton did a session with her, and this is it. I SWEAR, I did not know this song, had never heard it before, so you can clearly see me struggling here. I listened to it once right through then went for it. I think it's a rather heartwarming tribute to the Queen of Soul from a man, whose guitar playing, is evidence he has an on/off struggle with his own soul.
There's a shorter version of this on social media. This is the full version warts 'n all. I get lost in the weeds a couple of times, it's painful. But you gotta keep searching for those right notes...
