This timelapse captures a dramatic view of Mayon Volcano on February 9, 2026, as pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), also known locally as uson, descend the flanks amid a rainstorm. Mayon remains at Alert Level 3 — indicating a high level of volcanic unrest with ongoing magmatic activity at the summit lava dome and an increased likelihood of hazardous flows and explosive events.
During the latest eruptive phase, the largest PDC (uson) event occurred at 10:35 AM today. It traveled as far as ~4 km radial distance down the Mi-isi Gully, generating an extensive ~1 km-tall brownish ash plume that drifted southwest and caused ashfall over the barangays of Camalig and Guinobatan, Albay. Authorities continue to enforce a strict ban on entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) around the volcano.
