Well, it's all quite simple. American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto in 1930 (0:39). From 1930 until 2006, Pluto felt himself comfortably as the ninth planet in our solar system.

But everything changed in 2006. No, the truth is, that Pluto didn't change in size, shape, color etc. But the definition of a planet did.
