There are a few themes that run through Zizek's first chapter,. I may not be able to get through all of them, but I'll try to cover the ones I think are the most intriguing.
The main themes I'll talk about in this video specifically are outlined on the title card. The main idea I focus on here (referenced in the videos title) is this distinction between analyzing the "content" of dreams vs the "secret of the form". I provide two examples of my wom that I hope make this idea clearer.
This is a really interesting insight from Zizek into how psychoanalysis actually works: that it's not about finding the hidden meaning of dreams, for example, but about asking the question "why was a dream formed around this desire in the first place?" Zizek will ultimately take this analysis and try to apply it to ideology, which forms the basis of this book.
