TDOT Introduces "Fast Fix 8" Project for Downtown Nashville

Описание: NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer announced Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 a major bridge rehabilitation project along Interstate 40 in downtown Nashville.

The official announcement marked the start of critical work needed to replace eight bridges on the west side of the downtown loop. Built in 1968, the twin bridges located at Herman Street, Clinton Street, Jo Johnston Avenue, and Charlotte Avenue show advanced signs of deterioration and require near constant maintenance.

The rehabilitation project will reconstruct the bridges using an innovative process known as Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC). ABC speeds up construction and repair of highways and bridges by allowing short-term, total road or bridge closures to allow crews the space to do their jobs and the freedom to work around the clock. This dramatically reduces the time to complete a project and the long-term inconvenience to motorists.

The work, referred to as “Fast Fix 8” for the expedited repair of the eight bridges, will require 13 weekend closures of I-40 between the northwest and southwest splits of I-65. During the interstate closures, all traffic will be detoured. Advance notice will be provided prior to every closure, and project information, including detour maps, will be available online at www.tdot.tn.gov/fastfix8/.

Fast Fix 8 will provide a safer commute for the more than 136,000 vehicles that travel this section of I-40 every day, as well as the countless motorists who travel under the bridges. The nearly $62 million project was awarded to Kiewit Infrastructure Group and is expected to be finished by April 2016.
