Tawny Owl (Strix aluco)
The Tawny Owl is much more often heard than seen. Their commonest call is a load kewick. The tremulous, is a far- carrying call, so beloved by TV and film sound effects studios, that is so well known to require description. The word ‘Hooting’ scarcely does it justice. However, sometimes an Owl will hoot in the daytime, a rather odd sound, the best time to hear a Tawny Owls full recital is after dusk.
