I spent two nights out in the woods with a buddy of mine. It was good having the time to set up camp, relax and enjoy my time in nature without having to rush and get it all done in one night.
The weather was grey, bleak, and blustery Saturday and Sunday, but we woke up to stunning skies Monday morning. Despite having to shelter for 12+ hours on Sunday, I enjoyed watching nature do its thing from under my tarp. Sitting and doing nothing in nature is the greatest use of time (although my wife may beg to differ).
New to this trip were my handmade bucksaw and spoon. Both made from a beech log and using only hand tools (hatchet, saw, and carving knives). There is something so satisfying about crafting useful tools yourself. I also tried, for the first time, cooking a steak on a wooden grill (not sure what else to call it). It worked really well! Cooking the bacon on it didn't work quite as well, but I have a few ideas on how to make it work better.
I'm not an expert, but I enjoy learning and am always trying to improve my outdoor skills.
As always, we hid ourselves away and left no trace.
