As if regular spiders were scary enough, the Separatists deployed the DSD1 spider droid to combat republic forces during the clone wars in many operations, including Anaxes where a spider droid shot down Republic forces.
Manufactured by Baktoid Armor Workshop, this four-legged dome-shaped mechanical arachnid featured a powerful, centrally mounted laser cannon capable of both rapid-fire and high intensity bursts. Many were also equipped with a self-destruct mechanism.
If that doesn’t get your spidey sense tingling enough, they were designed to attach and move along vertical terrain such as cliffs as seen in the Battle of Teth where they rained down on incoming clone troopers and AT-TEs with a superior firing angle.
However, these robotic creepy crawlys did have a weakness as exposed by Captain Rex when he planted a thermal detonator on the droid’s belly.
Unlike most Separatist war machines that were deactivated at the end of the Clone Wars, the Dwarf Spider droids saw continued use by the Empire as enforcers against Separatist strongholds.
