Magellan part 3: rescued flying-fox on day 2

Описание: Magellan, is a 20 week old Black Flying-Fox who got herself stuck in a stairwell. They can't get out if they can't climb the slippery stairs, and if they can't see their way out. They can't stand on their legs to get height and reach.

The MOP said she was really bad and thought she was dead, but she opened her eyes and stayed clutched to a stone as if it were her lifeline.
Weirdly she wasn't all that happy to be rescued, and gave me quite a difficult time; she was too cranky to take the glucose and she was very thrashy.

At home, her disposition didn't improve; she was combative and bitey and didn't understand the notion of cooperation. I put her to bed with analgesia, glucose and fluids and hoped she'd settle down.

On day 2, cooperation still doesn't seem to be part of her vocabulary; she spent the morning bigwingsing me from in her cage; so I chipped her and took her to a carer.

This dark eyed girl with stars her eyes and the darkness of deep space in their depths, was named Magellan after the Magellanic clouds of the night sky; dark, mysterious, with a bit of bling.


Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).
