Beach Vacation - Torquay

Описание: Before the rush of summer vacations begins, we thought of taking a beach vacation in June '22 to Torquay in Devon, UK.
As luck would have it, the forecast of sunny weather changed to rains, still we were lucky enough to get quite a many sunny moments in between for us to enjoy and get good photos.

Our journey days were sandwiched between the UK rail strikes so faced some delays in arriving. Also, our destination was Torre (more convenient connection from Swindon), which happens to be a smaller station so had to wait quite a bit to reach our hotel, Anchorage Hotel in the Babbacombe area.

On Arrival Day, soon after check-in, we took a taxi to Princess Park and walked around the Torquay marina and walked along the Torquay seafront to National Home Guard memorial, the park around which is an excellent view point. Before our return, had some delicious fish n' chips at the Marina. Stepped out again late evening to walk along the Babbacombe Downs, which has a great beach view.

On Day 1, I did a solo hike along the South West Coastal Path starting near the Golf Club, then to Odicombe Beach (a pit stop for early morning ocean dip) and Babbacombe Beach and exit at Babbacombe Downs. Major part of this path is along the shore with pleasing views.
I joined the others and this time we took the Cliff Railway to Odicombe Beach - this is somewhere between a ropeway and a tram and provides easy access to Odicombe Beach, and Babbacombe beach is a short hike from here.
After our Lunch we visited the Kents Cavern, prehistoric caves, a short drive away. It is advisable to book a slot in advance. On our return, it was time for a dip in the pool.

Day 2, the wife and I went out early morning for sunrise catching after a short hike. On return, visited the Babbacombe model village, a delightful place for children and adults alike, with some crazy golf included. Again, pre-booking is advised.

We returned to Swindon same afternoon, some taxi issues and train staff shortage issues causing a minor ripple in otherwise a smooth journey!
