With all of this rain, we are getting a lot of calls for leaky chimney solutions.
Did you know that 50% of the inquiries and requests that we are receiving for repairs on leaky chimneys are coming from homeowners who previously paid another service provider to "fix it"?
IN GOOD ORDER,
HERE IS SOME FREE LEAKY CHIMNEY ADVICE.
1. Do not be rushed or pushed into making a quick decision on who to use to fix your chimney. Most of the time, a chimney can be tarped, and/or temporary sealants can be applied until you have considered your options.
2. Make sure your contractor/s inspect the chimney thoroughly. Active leaks should be investigated before offering solutions and beginning repairs. This is important for safety reasons, and it will reduce the potential for costly mid-job "surprises". A Good contractor will do everything they can to know as much as they can about your chimney and your goals before offering solutions. Having a proper chimney inspection performed will likely save you a serious amount of time and $.
3. Make sure you have the right trade. Common roofers, handymen/women, as well as standard building masons, are usually not well equipped to recognize and troubleshoot fireplace and chimney issues.
4. Do not trust reviews alone. Most homeowners are not able to know if a service technician was technically good at their job. There are a lot of well-intentioned technicians out there who are not aware of their technical limitations. Most poorly repaired chimneys will not leak for a year or 2, but the poor workmanship manifests eventually. The cost to repair it again is often more costly than it originally needed to be the first time.
