Guardiola praises Semenyo’s penalty box instincts and the impact of young players like Nico O’Reilly and Rico Lewis, hails Bernardo Silva as a unique competitor who “knows all the rules”, and highlights the development of defenders Nathan Ake and Khusanov.

He admits Haaland is “exhausted” and says he hopes Omar Marmoush comes back soon to give him rest. Guardiola then launches into a detailed criticism of recent refereeing and VAR calls at St James’ Park and in the FA Cup final, saying he is “pretty sure Howard Webb will explain it tomorrow” but insists City’s response must always be to “be better and be better and be better” in every aspect.
