Friends, do you know what oil the plane runs on? You will be surprised to know that airplanes run on kerosene. What, wondering? We all know that airplanes run on jet fuel. But this jet fuel is not a separate fuel. Rather, it is Jet A-1 kerosene.
Now the question is why kerosene is used in it?
The temperature required for kerosene to turn from liquid to ice is -40°C. Kerosene does not freeze in cold weather at very high altitudes due to its low density and very thinness. That's why kerosene can perfectly adapt to the various parts of the aircraft engine.
Another reason for using kerosene in aircraft is that the flash point of kerosene is much higher than that of gasoline. Flash point is the temperature at which a combustible material ignites. To be more precise, a fire with octane and petrol will not burn as quickly as it will with kerosene. So the risk of sudden fire is less.
Now the question is why the fare is so much in the plane even after flying with kerosene?
Friends, most of the planes that travel long distances are Boeing-747. And these planes usually fly about 35,000 feet above the ground. These planes consume one liter of oil every 4 seconds. A Boeing 747 takes off with 238,604 liters of oil at a time.
