The Roman walls of Lugo, located in Galicia, Spain, were built in the late 3rd century AD under Emperor Aurelian. Spanning 2.1 kilometers, they encircle the historic center of Lugo, forming a remarkable example of late Roman fortifications. The walls feature 85 external towers and 10 gates, standing up to 15 meters high and 4-7 meters thick.
Throughout history, these walls protected Lugo from various invasions, including those by Suevi, Visigoths, and Moors. Unlike many ancient fortifications, Lugo's walls remain almost entirely intact, preserving their original Roman structure. They stand today as a testament to Roman engineering and continue to be a defining feature of Lugo's urban landscape.
