In this video we set out along the John Muir Way in Scotland to discover Rough Castle, one of the best-preserved Roman forts on the Antonine Wall. What looks like simple grassy earthworks today once marked the northern edge of the Roman Empire nearly 2,000 years ago.
After exploring the remains of the fort and its defensive ditches, we continue the walk onward toward Bonnybridge, taking in the quiet countryside, open paths and peaceful surroundings along the way.
This is a short and gentle route of around three miles, perfect for anyone looking for a relaxed historical walk with a bit of nature and fresh air.
Whether you’re interested in Roman history, Scottish trails, or simply a calm walk outdoors, this stretch of the John Muir Way offers a little of everything.
