The 'B4407' road to Ysbty Ifan...

Описание: Continuing my series of dashcam videos in Snowdonia, here is one fearuring perhaps my favourite road in the National Park, the 'B4407 to Ysbty Ifan'... I'll show the turn-off from the A5, then skip the boring half of the journey and continue where the countryside gets a little more... interesting... Sssssh, don't tell Jeremy Clarkson...

Leaving Betws-Y-Coed, heading east on the A5, just before the small hamlet of Pentrefoalas, there is a right-hand turn onto a road sign-posted 'Ysbyty Ifan B4407'. At Ysbyty Ifan there's a 'T' junction with the A4391 to Ffestiniog (we turn right at the junction, but we'll look at the A4391 in another video). At first, the B4407 appears to be a narrow, one track road through unremarkavle farming land, not very different from similar roads elswhere in Britain (that's why I'm skipping that first part of the route) but after a few miles of seemingly normal country road bordered by hedgerow and perhaps another two miles of unremarkable but narrower country lane, eventually, as the road seems to get narrower still, the countryside widens into a vast moorland bordered by mountains and wide, sweeping valleys. The road is barely wide enough, for most of its length, to allow oncoming traffic to pass without having to pull over (at the half-way point, as you'll see, I do pull over to let a tail-gating idiot have it his own way - why are people always in a hurry?) but traffic is more of a rarity here than a worry as a break-down in the middle of this endless nowhere would be far more problematic. Mobile phone coverage you may as well forget about. Your other problem is keeping your eyes on the road while surrounded by incredible countryside. I did keep my eyes on the road, however, just as I did when I discovered this road some 20 years ago... this is my second experience on this glorious route...
