The L is the 14 St Local-Canarsie Local line, running from 8th Avenue in Manhattan all the way to Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway in Brooklyn. It was the first line to utilize CBTC, allowing for great service. It serves hundreds of thousands of riders daily and is a significant & iconic part of the New York City Subway.
The (L) utilizes R143 and R160 fleet. A couple of months ago, the R143 announcements regarding accessibility were somewhat modified, similar to what you'd hear on the (7). This video showcases those changes.
