Conservative Shadow Home Secretary says British-Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fattah is "a scumbag" who is "clearly racist against white people" and should be deported.
But Talk's Ian Collins grills him over the fact his party gave the British-Egyptian activist citizenship four years ago.
Sir Keir Starmer is facing calls to strip the UK citizenship from a democracy activist recently released from years of detention in Egypt after his past social posts sparked a backlash.
Alaa Abd El-Fattah was detained in Egypt in September 2019, and in December 2021 was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of spreading false news.
His imprisonment was branded a breach of international law by UN investigators, and he was pardoned by Egyptian president Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi in September after years of lobbying by Conservative and Labour governments.
Democracy activist Alaa Abd El-Fattah has apologised “unequivocally” for several historic tweets in which he appears to call for violence towards Zionists, but said some of the posts have been “completely twisted out of their meaning”.
