Today we want to look at the jury instructions regarding compensatory, nominal, and punitive damages.
Compensatory damages are awarded to get you back to where you were before the bad event.
Nominal damages are awarded when there's evidence that the plaintiff has been harmed, but the plaintiff can't prove the amount.
Punitive damages are awarded when you can clearly convince the jury that the defendant has acted wantonly, maliciously, fraudulently, or in an oppressive manner.
The jury gets to decide whether or not they award punitive damages.
Be sure to subscribe to be notified when we talk more on the different jury charges.
Thanks for watching!
