A nice few days which included renting a mountain bike from Cam Smile Visa Service for $4 which I rode out to West Baray Reservoir. This reservoir is 8 kms by 2 kms, and one of the largest hand carved reservoirs in the world. It was built 1000 years ago at the same time as the Angkor Wat temple complex.
From Cam Smile I rode out of the city on Highway 6, which is a great flat road with little traffic. I turned right on the road leading to the old airport near West Baray, as I wanted to see what that was like. I then got a little lost as I wasn't paying attention as the road bent around at almost 90 degrees. I stopped to check Google Maps and met the people in the thumbnail of this video having lunch.
I worked out I was heading for the Angkor Wat temple complex where one of the ladies told me she worked. They were having lunch and '1 beer' each. To get to West Baray the quickest and most interesting route turned out to be dirt roads which were quite fun to ride and very interesting.
The reservoir itself was great for a swim and I entered at Samut Siem Reap next to Wat Svay Romeat Pagoda. I just left my stuff in the shade and went in, no fee to pay but you can rent a mat or a hammock if you want one and drinks and snacks were available.
The round trip was 24 kilometres and my ass hurt like hell. I treated myself to a $3 pizza from 'I Am Pizza' on my return to the city, and for $3 that was very good.
I mention at the start of this video that I joined the gym, Angkor Fitness, for $33 a month, but if you want to do classes and use the sauna it's about $53 a month.
On Valentine's Day they had a 10 km race in the city which was very popular. I met some local laides at UR Cafe who'd just done the shorter 5 km race who all spoke great English.
