Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Chordplay with Modified Blues Progressions. This lesson revolves around a common area of music and music theory that I've worked on with countless students over the years. Yes, we're talking about the most common chord progression on the planet in this lesson, but once things get rolling, you'll see that we're doing some very different and interesting things to this very common progression - so let's dive in!
This lesson revolves around selecting a I-IV-V progression in a single key (major or minor) and then mutating the progression in various ways. This includes shifting between parallel major/minor chords, exploring seventh chord options, investigating chord extensions, not to mention adding addition chords from the key into the progression. The ideas shared here significantly change the flavor of this beyond-common chord progression.
Needless to say, if you're a LNL viewer that asked for "more music theory" or "more songwriting tips," a player looking for insight into writing original music and ideas, a guitarist struggling with understanding how to actually use these common areas of music theory, or maybe you're just curious what all the fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!
