This post discusses glute activation and quad dominance. Many of us fail to activate our glutes during movements that should target them - such as the squat. This carries over into athletic performance and daily life. The result is that we rely more on the quads, which is known as "quad dominance."
By becoming more glute dominant again, we are able to utilize the largest muscle in the body, which also happens to be the "antigravity muscle." Some people believe that glute dominance is one of the keys to improving athletic performance!
The glutes are all about propulsion, and so by reawakening control and power in this area, you can run faster, jump higher, and combat nagging knee and back pain. Part of the problem of course is too much sitting, but it also comes down to mistakes in the gym (such as using big shoes!). This post explains what you can do!
Oh and if you just want a defined behind then you need glute activation to ensure that you're actually targeting the right muscles!
