Virtual entertainment is 'very contentious,' opening the door to 'a lot of ethical issues'

Joining FRANCE 24 is Dr. Jenna NG, Senior Lecturer in Film and Interactive Media at the University of York and Author of "The Post-Screen Through Virtual Reality, Holograms and Light Projections: Where Screen Boundaries Lie." As entertainment goes virtual, and virtual reality becomes more widely integrated into our culture, "there is this real discombobulation of time here," explains Dr. NG. "The issue here is whether the past is not appearing as the present." She believes that "there is a very radical disruption to our innate understanding of time into our cultural observations of the past." She describes the interaction of the past and the present as a "double-edged sword." While it could, in essence, be a real gift, "there are ways in which we deal with the past - the memorialization, anniversaries, observances, and so on, that have potentially become irrelevant."
