Fira is the capital of the island, the administrative center and the most developed area, with everything a small town needs to survive and prosper. Hotels, food, nice views of the caldera and great people. Other businesses also exist there that help supply the rest of the island with building materials, fuel, wholesale, furniture, medical facilities, banks, etc. Whatever you need in the island you will be able to find in Fira. The nightlife is also very healthy there.

Oia - on the other hand - is the little cute girl on the north end of the island, away from the commercial activity of Fira. While it has been carefully preserved as the most traditional village on the island. Nightlife is now limited to restaurants and a few quiet bars. It's much smaller than Fira. The sunset there

Both Fira and Oia sit on the cliff overlooking the caldera, so any view available of the sea will be spectacular regardless of which village you're in. Both Fira and Oia offer fine gourmet dining as well as restaurants that are more for the budget traveller. There's something for everyone.
