The New U.S. Global Health Security Strategy

Описание: On April 16, 2024, the White House launched the new U.S. Global Health Security Strategy (GHSS), which lays out the administration’s priorities for working with partner countries to strengthen global preparedness, prevention, and response capabilities. The strategy is coming forward at a challenging fiscal and political moment, and the United States will need to navigate competing geopolitical concerns and a crowded replenishment landscape in 2024-2025.

The CSIS Bipartisan Alliance for Global Health Security co-chairs, Richard Burr and Julie Gerberding, are joined by Stephanie Psaki, U.S. Coordinator for Global Health Security and Deputy Senior Director for Global Health Security and Biodefense, White House National Security Council, to discuss what distinguishes this strategy and how the administration will use it to guide its efforts. In the course of their conversation, they cover several outstanding questions, including the strategy’s core messaging, what resourcing will be required to achieve its priorities, which country partners have shown the greatest commitment, how the strategy fits into difficult negotiations over the pandemic agreement, and how the administration will make progress on other quite challenging areas—such as geopolitical competition and mistrust—that are not captured in the strategy.
