Sokka's Master: A look at the insecurities of a comedian

Sokka is the comic relief of Avatar. Any moment in Avatar that is humorous, Sokka has in some way, shape, or form been apart of creating those moments. Most will remember the time Sokka trips on some cactus juice. And it can be a bit easy to see Sokka as some of the show uses to break up the tension. But he is also this brilliant individual not only in terms of strategy but also his technical wizardry. Despite this, he is filled with self-doubt, worried that he's not worthy of being part of this journey. On the first viewing of Avatar, it's a bit easy to miss this until it all comes bubbling out during season 3, episode 4, Sokka's Master. It's the first time Sokka talks about his inferiority complex. And as the viewer can reflect on Sokka as a character and the development he has gown through. To me, Sokka's Master is one of my favorite episodes of Avatar. It introduces Sokka's space sword and Piandao and has a reference to the old nickelodeon logo. All of which I loved when I was younger on my first viewing. But now I appreciate it even more because of what it was able to do for Sokka as a character. It humanized him made him become more than a Joke. I think Sokka's Master does what Zuko alone does for Zuko. These episodes are defining moments for the characters that allow the audience to see them in a different light. Each of the episodes' tones is different. Zuko alone is a more series in tone than that of Sokka's Master that is both humorous and yet a bit depressing at times as Sokka's insecurities are displayed for us viewers. the introduction of Piandao to the conon of the avatar universe all though brief only appearing in two episodes similar to many other members of the white lotus. has a lasting impact on crew avatar manly when it comes to sokka. allow sokka to start his growth phase. he does not solve all of sokka's insecurities by being Sokka's Master because that would be unrealistic.
