Universal minimum wages: Wage protection extended to all workers — in organized and unorganized sectors.

Uniform wage definitions & timely payment: Ensures fair payment, prevents unauthorized deductions and guarantees overtime pay where applicable.

Social security for more people: The social security code extends protections not only to formal employees but also to unorganized workers, gig-workers, platform workers, contract-workers, etc.

Gratuity for fixed-term employees: Under the new framework, even fixed-term and contract employees may become eligible for gratuity after only one year of service (instead of earlier norms) — a big win for many.

Safer working conditions & better regulation of workplaces: The OSHWC Code brings consolidated standards for safety, health and working conditions across sectors, including hazardous work, and simplifies registration and licensing for employers.

⚠️ What to Know & Watch Out For

While benefits have expanded, there are changes in industrial relations — such as rules around trade-union recognition, layoff/retirement thresholds, and contract/fixed-term employment.
