As we continue our journey behind the scenes of the Kings Park Downtown Sewer Project, it’s time to focus on a critical piece of the puzzle: wastewater treatment. The County owns and operates the Suffolk County Sewer District (SCSD) No. 6 Sewage Treatment Plant, which is situated about 1.5 miles from the heart of the Kings Park business district.
An in-depth assessment of the facility’s capabilities revealed good news for the community’s future growth. The plant is permitted to treat up to 600,000 gallons per day (gpd), yet it's currently processing only around 306,000 gpd. That means there’s an impressive margin of 294,000 gpd available to accommodate new connections and support an expanded district.
