On February 24, 2018, the DLSU Lady Spikers suffered an upset loss against the AdU Lady Falcons in the first round of the UAAP Season 80 Women's Volleyball tournament. After the game, Coach Ramil De Jesus infamously described the performance of his players as "pambarangay". This served as a huge wake up call for the Lady Spikers as they never lost again during that tournament, winning 11 straight matches en route to a third straight UAAP crown.
