AC2 fabric technology was conceptualized at Arc'teryx prior to 2002 after a long development period. It was conceived to take what Arc'teryx has done with outerwear; taking that construction technology and applying it to backpacks to make them lightweight, extremely durable and weather resistant.

AC2 fabric is coated inside and out to create an air and water impermeable fabric that resists almost any weather condition while also being very resistant to abrasion and extremely light for its level of strength. AC2 isn't just about a fabric, it is about how the fabrics come together, how the fabric interacts with the seam tape and the savings in weight come from the way packs can be constructed.

The fabric has a TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) coating on the back and 'kiss-coat' urethane coating on the face. The kiss-coat locks up the fabric yarns and provides protection against abrasion like rocks or any rough surface that the fabric comes into contact with -- the coating takes the wear before the yarn gets affected. The seams are also pressed flat creating a smooth surface that is less susceptible to wear.

The fabric on it's own is extremely weather proof due to the urethane coating on the face (kiss coating) which beads moisture and keeps it out. The white coating on the back is extremely weatherproof and combined with the seam taping makes AC2 packs extremely weatherproof and durable.
