Getting a Speeding Ticket Completely Dismissed

This video highlights a few recent speeding ticket cases which resulted in complete dismissals. As a disclaimer, complete dismissals in Upstate New York Speeding tickets are more the exception than the rule. Downgrades to lesser offenses or lesser point infractions are more the reality but sometimes dismissals are possible.

A New York State speeding ticket can be costly in more ways than one. There are five associated "potential" pains with any traffic offense but particularly with a speed infraction.

1. Fines (usually over a wide range) to be determined by the judge. Can range from $100 to hundreds of dollars.

2. NYS Surcharge ($88 or $93) per ticket depending on whether it is a city, town, or village court.

3. NYS DMV driver assessment fees for three years. Mandatory if 6 points or more, whether you are a NYS license holder or not. A minimum of $100 per year.

4. Car Insurance Rate Increases. This can range from 10% to 15% or more per year for three years under your states insurance law.

5. Driver's License Suspension. One High point ticket, three speeding tickets within 18 months, or 11 or more points within 18 months.
