Описание: This video offers a quick demo of the Model 31 Linotype linecaster at Gaspereau Press in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Linotypes were one of the mechanical systems developed in the late 19th century to speed up the composition of type, one of the last aspects of the printing trade to b mechanized. This system assembles matrices using a keyboard and then casts the whole line in type metal as a single slug. Each matrix is uniquely keyed so that they could be mechanically redistributed into the correct channel in the magazine after each cast. It is a marvel of late Victorian engineering. We are by no means experts, but we are excited to be introducing a Linotype into the diverse typographical toolbox at Gaspereau Press.
