It was my first semester at university, and I moved into a dorm with my new friends: Jakub, Olek, and Pawel. The dorm was new, but one thing really annoyed us – the entrance gate, which seemed to beep non-stop, especially when we needed peace the most. On the first day after moving in, I came back to the dorm after classes, swiped my card, and the gate emitted a loud, sharp sound: “Beep-beep-beep!” 🥺 “Do your entrance gates always beep like this too? 🥺” I shouted, offended, looking at Jakub, who was standing next to me. He laughed, but then reassured me: “Yes, it’s normal – this gate is older, it often confuses one card with another. You’ll have to get used to it.”
But getting used to it was hard. Every morning, when we came back from a jog, the gate beeped. When I came back late from a study session with Pawel, the gate beeped so loudly that it woke up the neighbors from the next room. “What’s going on? Why is it so loud?” the dorm supervisor asked us, looking upset. “Sorry, it’s the gate – it always beeps when we swipe our cards,” I explained, apologetically. “I know, but please try not to make noise early in the morning and late at night,” he said and left. Pawel looked at me and said: “Do your entrance gates always beep like this too? 🥺 It’s starting to be frustrating – I had a test today, and this gate woke me up an hour early.”
A week later, the situation got worse. The gate started beeping even when we swiped our cards correctly. Olek swiped his card once, and the gate beeped for so long that we thought it was broken. “I want to call the administrator, this is impossible!” Olek shouted, annoyed. We agreed – we sent a message to the administrator, describing the problem. We waited for a response all day, but nothing came. In the evening, when I came back to the dorm, I saw the administrator standing by the gate, fixing it. “Sorry for the problem – the gate had a broken card reader, I replaced it today,” he said with a smile.
I swiped my card – the gate opened without any sound. “Wow! It doesn’t beep anymore!” I shouted joyfully. Jakub, Olek, and Pawel came right after, and each of them tested their cards – the gate worked perfectly. “Do your entrance gates always beep like this too? 🥺” we asked each other, laughing, remembering those annoying days. “Not anymore, but I remember how it was – it was a nightmare,” Pawel said. From that day on, whenever we see another gate that beeps, we shout: “Do your entrance gates always beep like this too? 🥺” and then laugh. It’s our little joke that reminds us of the start of our university life – even though those beeps were annoying, we now remember them with a smile.
Even today, when I no longer live in the dorm, I meet up with my friends and sometimes we remember those days. “Do you remember those gates? How they always beeped?” Jakub asks, and we all laugh. “Do your entrance gates always beep like this too? 🥺” this sentence has become our catchphrase – it reminds us of friendship, frustration, and the little joys that make university life special. Now, when I see any gate that beeps, I think of my friends and those moments – and even though I was annoyed back then, I’m now grateful for those memories.
