“The Frog and the Water” takes you on a journey where two lonely souls meet and form an unexpected connection. Buschi lives a repetitive life in an assisted living facility, but everything changes when he slips away from a group outing and forms a meaningful bond with a Japanese tourist Hideo. Their wordless friendship becomes the beginning of an adventure neither of them could have predicted.
Thomas Stuber is a German director and screenwriter from Leipzig. He studied directing at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, and his short films have earned multiple awards, including a Student Oscar for “Of Dogs and Horses” (2011).
Although the director couldn’t make it to PÖFF this year, he is no stranger to the festival, with several films screened in previous years, such as “In the Aisles” (2018) and “Herbert” (2015). His new film carries the gentle humour and emotional sincerity that define his style.
To talk about the film, we’re joined by one of films producers, Fee Buck, who shares his insights.

Thomas Stuber on Saksa režissöör ja stsenarist Leipzigist. Ta õppis rezisööriks Baden-Württembergi Filmiakadeemias ning tema lühifilmid on pälvinud mitmeid auhindu, sealhulgas tudengite Oscari filmiga “Of Dogs and Horses” (2011).
