Jammu, J&K: Former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah survives assassination attempt at a wedding ceremony. Abdullah said, "I was leaving the venue when I heard firecracker sounds… I was immediately rushed into a car. Later I was informed that a man fired 2 bullets with a pistol. I do not know him or his motive. The wedding had many VIPs, yet no police arrangements were in place."

The accused, 63-year-old Kamal Singh Jamwal, told police, "I have wanted to kill Farooq Abdullah for 20 years."
