It’s normal to not feel confident all the time, but inner confidence has more to do with what we believe than what we feel.
Here are 3 simple truths to be a highly confident person:
Confidence is not about not having insecurities, it’s about being kind to yourself.
We’re all human, so why do we keep expecting ourselves to be this flawless creature and beat ourselves up when we’re not perfect?
Some people are more confident than others not because they don’t have insecurities, but because they learn to understand their insecurities and give kindness to themselves. We can improve positively and productivity as a person; instead of being harsh and judgemental to ourselves to force improvement.
2. Confidence is not about comparison but about reflection.
When your friend is feeling insecure, you don’t tell her, “Yeah, you do kinda suck. Look at how amazing Jane is, she’s so pretty and thin and successful! Why can’t you be more like her?”
If we don’t do this to our friend, then why do we do it to ourselves? We look at someone else’s love life, body, career and instagram feed and immediately feel bad because we think we’re lacking in comparison.
People can have a great life, but what has their great life has got to do with our life?
When we’re feeling down or insecure, we can stop for a moment and reflect on what we are grateful for and how we can grow to be more of who we are, instead of how to be more like someone else.
3. Confidence is not about pretending but about accepting.
Sometimes, we feel a little awkward or self-conscious, and we force ourselves to fake confidence.
But instead of pretending, we can change the focus to accepting that we are not feeling so sure of ourselves and that’s okay. This allows us to be more open, more warm and more engaging, because we’re not trying to “protect ourselves from our vulnerability .
Often, we come across as stuck-up when we’re actually just shy and insecure.
So forget about pretending to be confident, because that’s us seeking validation and will make us more self-conscious. Instead, give validation to yourself by accepting yourself for who you are, insecurities and all, and decide to be open and and enjoy yourself wherever you are.
The best thing we can do for ourselves is not to achieve more or to be more, but to learn how to be truly comfortable with who we are. It is when we have nothing to prove to others and to ourselves, that we are truly are open real growth and change. And that, is true inner confidence. Be happy, with who you are, always!
