Today’s ride took us deep underground.
Joey, Israel, and I rode our tiny e-bikes into the San Pedro tunnel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The tunnel entrance was sealed with a heavy steel gate, weighed down with thick metal blocks. After getting inside, we started riding deeper and deeper into the darkness.
At first the tunnel was large and square, covered in graffiti. But soon it changed into a small round tunnel that stretched far into the darkness.
We rode nearly 3 miles one way inside the tunnel on our tiny e-bikes.
Inside tunnels like this there are real risks:
Low oxygen levels
Potential gas contamination
Flooding
Unknown people inside
The deeper we went, the more we wondered…
Does this tunnel even have an exit?
