In this short clip, I use a simple whistle cue followed by the word “listen.”
This isn’t about obedience.
It’s about clarity.
Over time, I’ve trained Penny to orient to a whistle. The sound predicts focus and reinforcement. There’s no chasing, no pressure — just a cue she understands.
One of the benefits I’ve found with reward-based training is clearer communication.
Clear cues reduce confusion.
Reduced confusion lowers arousal.
Lower arousal allows thinking.
And thinking horses are calmer horses.
This is just what works for us — built gradually and reinforced consistently.
