When Pakistan gained its independence in 1947, it consisted of two wings, East Pakistan and West Pakistan. Two of the provinces of British India, Punjab and Bengal, were divided along religious lines by the Radcliffe Commission. The only thing common was Islam. It was separated by more than 1000 miles of distance with India, the archenemy since Pakistan's birth, was placed in the middle.
Years of political, social and economic differences, fueled by the exploitation of India result in a crisis for unity. Unrest became a revolt, which became a civil war and after the support of India, East Pakistan parted with Pakistan on 16th December 1971 to become Bangladesh.
