In olden times, the first full moon of every lunar year was a very big holiday. Farming was the main industry in Korea, and the First Full Moon Festival was a place where Korean farmers came together to encourage each other by playing traditional games and sharing food. This tradition is continued today and is held in many places in Korea. One of the festivals was held at the National Folk Museum of Korea, located right next to Gyeongbokgung Palace. This palace is a national treasure, and the historic royal palace of Korean kings. Many families and tourists gather here to enjoy the free booths that are set up and experience Korean traditional culture.
