How to Cope with Depression

1. Go see a doctor or therapist: A doctor or therapist will help you get on the right track with medications or a plan to keep you safe and get better as soon as possible.
2. Do your research: Doing your research on depression will help you understand the disease and you can learn additional strategies to help you cope.
3. Sleep: Whether you need more sleep or less sleep, try to find a range of hours that you need each night. I recommend 7-8 hours of sleep each night for optimal results.
4. Exercise: This may be the most difficult one. Start off small such as taking a walk around the park, and then slowly increase the amount of exercise based on what you can handle.
5. Eat well: Instead of going through the fast food all of the time, try to cook your own meals and stay away from processed foods. Eating healthier will increase your energy levels and give you the energy to tackle your depression.
6. Surround yourself with positive people: If there are people in your life who keep you down, make a choice and see if you can get them out of your life. Keep close with those who really love and care about you. They are there to help.
7. Journal or Blog: Keep track of how you are feeling each day. This gives you a chance to see your progress and mark any areas that you can improve in.
8. Reward yourself: If you have been having a good couple of days or weeks, reward yourself with something that you enjoy. This can be a certain food or new toy.
9. Find a support group: If you don't have anyone who you can talk to, research some support groups that you can join. Here you can meet with others who are suffering and help each other out.
10. Remember your not alone: There are people out there who are going through the exact same thing you are, if not even worse. There are those who have gotten through this tough time in their life, so hang in there and you can do it to!

My channel is Gaming With Depression and it focuses around two major things: video games and depression. As someone who has major depressive disorder, playing video games is a way for me to cope. I also enjoy making let's plays because it helps me work on my speaking and it pushes me out of my comfort zone to actually do something when I'm depressed. I also talk a little about my depression and medications I take, but I don't go into major details. I hope that you enjoy my videos and channel!
