The FE-4000 Fully Automated Blood Handling Workstation is a benchtop liquid handling system designed for the post-centrifugation aliquoting of whole blood samples. It automatically identifies and aliquots plasma, the buffy coat, and red blood cells, and can also handle urine sediment samples.
This video demonstrates the whole blood aliquoting process:
1.The system picks up the primary sample tube from the rack, transfers it above the clamping station, and rotates it for barcode scanning to identify the sample. Simultaneously, it captures an image to identify the separated layers.
2.The tube is then secured in the clamping station and uncapped. Based on the layer boundaries identified by the software, it proceeds to aliquot the plasma, buffy coat, and red blood cells. A wide-bore tip is used for the buffy coat, employing a multi-point aspiration mode to ensure complete recovery.
3.After aliquoting all components, the system recaps the original sample tube and returns it to the sample rack.
