A Fragile Peace :: A Free Improvisation - J Kyle Gregory, Trumpet, Bill Koehler, Double Bass

Описание: A Fragile Peace is a free improvisation which opens with solo bass. When the trumpet enters, we are reminded of the tensions and troubles that exist in the world. The complex mood prevails with melodic tensions in the trumpet and chordal underpinnings in the bass. As the piece draws to a close, there is a subsiding of tensions and a renewed hope that peace may prevail. A Fragile Peace will be included on our upcoming album entitled H.I. Human Intelligence. The album title was chosen because with the control that A.I. will impart in our lives, we must continue to remember what it means to be human and expressing ourselves. The genre of free improvisation provides a safe haven for expression in the true present moment as a call to “be there, now.” Unfortunately we did not video the recording.

j Kyle Gregory and Bill Koehler first met as fellow music graduate students at Indiana University in the mid 1980s. Our second rendezvous happened in the mid 1990s as we both realized we were music professors at nearby Illinois Universities. At that time, we first discovered our unity as kindred spirits in free improvisation. We got together regularly to practice, record, and present some concerts together. Our unfolding paths diverged when Kyle moved to Europe in 1998. Now, 25 years later our paths crossed for the third time in 2023, and as fate would have it, we again live an hour away from each other! Once again we are celebrating the musical and personal affinity that makes creative collaboration such a precious pleasure for us and we hope also for you as listeners!!
