The crisis was triggered by widespread rumors of a major fuel shortage, leading to a massive rush at bunks where vehicle owners were seen filling their tanks to full capacity. While oil marketing companies (OMCs) and government officials have clarified that there is absolutely no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG, the abnormal surge in sales—nearly three times the normal volume—has temporarily exhausted local reserves.
