At exactly 8am on the 13th August 1964 fifty years ago, Gwynne Owen Evans and Peter Anthony Allen were hanged for the murder of John Alan West. But when they died, no one knew how historic their hangings were to become.
They were the last executions in Britain.
This film looks again at the case, the murder, the investigation, the trial and the execution of two petty criminals and puts their hanging into the context of the capital punishment debate and its ultimate abolition.
