"Gris Gris" is about the need for believing in something and being spiritual as a construct that sometimes we impose on ourselves for the wrong reasons, like seeking other people's acceptance (which in spite of our best efforts we still don't get). Sometimes a lucky charm is merely an object with no magical qualities to it. And that's perfectly fine.
