TRIPLE COIL FOR DOWNTUNED CHUGS - Schecter Sunset Triad 6 Pop Punk/Easycore Playthrough

In 2012 Meshuggah released their follow up to Obzen, Koloss, a super influential album for me. So much so that I even watched the mini-documentary they made cataloguing the creation of the album (watch it here:    • Meshuggah - Making of Koloss  )

There is brief shot in this documentary showcasing a triple coil 8 string humbucker and I was OBSESSED. I scoured the internet (7string.org, Meshuggah forum, etc) looking for info about the pickup and what it sounded like. While I didn't find anything, I am happy to say that I now know what a triple coil pickup sounds like because of the Schecter Triad 6.

I decided to get the 6 string version because I figured the 7 string version has the potential to get a little muddy with the triple coil and I think I made the right call. For this demo, the triad was tuned to Drop D and because of the three coils, it had the feel and sound of something tuned much lower. The extra coil adds a lot of low end and depth to the already brutal sound of the apocalypse pickups. It really works to make my pop punk/easycore type music feel heavier! I tried to tuning it lower to see how it sounded and the clarity takes a bit of a dive in triple coil mode, but fear not! The first position utilizes the first two coils only and the pickups are SUPER aggressive so your drop tuned riffs truly stand out in a mix.

The mega-bucker aside, all of the pickups positions sound phenomenal in this guitar. One thing that was a pleasant surpise was that there wasn't much of a volume drop in the single coil positions like I've come to expect from single coils. Each position is full of life and unique tone making the guitar super versatile!

the Schecter sunset triad 6 has a ton of other premium features: Locking tuners, Graphtech nut, stainless steel frets, spoke wheel truss rod adjustment, carbon reinforced neck. Schecter is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to features for money and the Triad 6 is no exception.

The guitar plays like a dream and sounds mean as hell! It's my first guitar with stainless steel frets and it really does make for a smoother playing experience.

The Triad 6 is an absolute bargain and really difficult to not recommend. I'd be curious to try the 7 string version as well and see how the scale length affects the clarity at lower tunings. Leave a comment below with your thoughts on the Triad series! I'd love to hear more experiences with it.
