In "My Disability Story" we seek to humanize the disability experience by sharing stories and insights of real world professionals.
Sira Laurel is a executive functioning coach and founder of North of Normal. She identifies as a "highly sensitive person" (HSP). Basically, her brain absorbs and must then process more external stimuli than the average person, making her more susceptible to overstimulation. Imagine moving through the world where the music is always too loud and the smells are always overpowering. Sounds exhausting!
While HSP is not usually recognized as a disability, it is usually recognized as a neurodiversity. Her experiences lead us on a fascinating discussion of coping and identity.
