China's 'Limitless Energy' Discovery Shocks U S Engineers – Could Power China for 60,000 Years! Chinese geologists have discovered an "endless" energy source capable of supplying the country's energy needs for the next 60,000 years. According to a national survey, the Bayan Obo mining complex in Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region in northern China, may contain enough thorium to sustain household energy consumption almost indefinitely.
Thorium, a mildly radioactive element, can be utilized in molten-salt reactors—a type of nuclear power station capable of generating vast amounts of energy. Scientists estimate that if fully exploited, the mining complex could yield approximately one million tonnes of thorium, according to a declassified report obtained by The South China Post.
The study suggests that China's thorium resources, particularly those found in mining waste, remain largely untapped. If properly extracted, these reserves could be sufficient to significantly reduce, if not eliminate, global reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, researchers claim that waste from just five years of iron ore mining in Inner Mongolia contains enough thorium to meet the United States' energy needs for over 1,000 years.
This discovery comes amid a global race between China, Russia, and the United States to advance nuclear technology and establish nuclear power as a primary energy source. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to sign an agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, granting the U.S. access to Ukraine’s rare earth reserves.
The study identified 233 thorium-rich zones across China, suggesting the country’s thorium reserves may be far greater than previously estimated. Thorium, which is 500 times more abundant than uranium-232—the isotope used in conventional nuclear reactors—has been widely regarded as a promising alternative for nuclear energy.
Nuclear reactors generate power by inducing fission, a process in which radioactive elements break down into smaller, more stable elements, releasing heat that drives steam turbines. Although thorium itself is not fissile—meaning it cannot sustain a fission reaction independently—it is fertile, meaning it can be converted into uranium-233 (U-233) when bombarded with neutrons, making it a viable energy source.
