The last two weeks we have been exploring Petra in Jordan. We took a guided tour through most of the main sites of Petra, then you followed us as we journeyed off the beaten path in order to find a more unique Petra experience. Now, this week, watch as we wrap up our Petra guided tour series with a short video on our second day in Petra. We woke up early in the morning and headed to Little Petra, another Nabataean site not far from the archaeological park. Little Petra has a couple of cool sites, but the real reason to visit here is because it is the gateway to the Monastery of Petra. To get to the Monastery, you can hike a medium strenuous hike of 7km from Little Petra to the Monastery, or you can catch a truck that will drive you most of the way for 5 JD. We chose the truck because we had walked so much the day before. Luckily, we got to still do some hiking. This was a serene hike with awesome cliffside views of Petra’s rocky desert. It does not matter whether you hike from Little Petra or walk all the way from the main site of Petra, or take a truck to the site, you NEED to visit the monastery. I think that it may be even nicer than the famous treasury, and because it is harder to get to, it is less crowded. A trip to Petra is incomplete without seeing this monument.
